What Are Mold Coatings?
When making castings, mold coatings are applied to casting molds before molten metal is poured to prevent direct contact between the metal and the mold. This helps prevent metal penetration and improves the smoothness of the casting surface.
These coatings are primarily composed of refractory materials such as graphite, zircon, and silica combined with binders. The dilution solvents used for these coatings may include water or alcohols such as methanol and ethanol.
